Communication engagement is crucial in the digital world; we will teach digital and laptop literacy skills and features. Provide authentic context for practice using technology in ways that mirror its real world uses. During COVID and Omicron lockdowns, there was a need and a lack of knowledge or no devices at all. Keeping in touch is important during these tough times. Therefore, we will teach collectively how to communicate online and have discussions to build their confidence in communicating the ability to using e.g Office 365, zoom and other form of effective communication.<\/span><\/p>\n

So many Samoans have made New Zealand home away from home and for some of us we also want to bring our motherland and all its glory into our daily living here in NZ. So, we have made it our mission to elevate, encourage and nurture all who have the desire to learn the culture\/fa’asamoa and the Gagana Samoa or the Samoan language. In this workshop, you will learn the basic and signature values of Samoa through Oratory, cooking, song\/dance and serving.<\/span><\/p>\n

During Covid and Omicron lack of exercise caused damage to peoples fatigue, health, well-being and self esteem dropped. We will book local community recreation centre twice a month for a mixture of sports and Zumba. This will benefit a better mental health so a healthy diet that will be presented at the recreation, cutting back on alcohol and other drugs, getting a good night\u2019s sleep, and regular checkups with the local doctor can all help. Overall, the ability to cope and manage change and uncertainty. We also have fitness activities on Saturday mornings where we either have morning walks around the block near our compound or host zumbas, which has been a pivotal and successful method in getting our fitness levels up.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hello My name is Greta, I am thankful for the programmes that were run by LWCC. I am happy because the workshops were both important to me both Digital literacy and Samoa Language. Throughout my time in this gagana samoa class I have began speaking more samoan a little more fluently then I would usually. The fact that it’s help me connect with much of the oldies especially working in retail in otara. The stories I am able to hear and understand have kept me grounded and humbled in this day. in age. I believe that if we have more of these it’d give an opportunity for our younger generations to remain in Contact with their ancestors just as our maori brothers and sisters our with te reo maori. Through one-on-one and group discussions, I could practice speaking and listening to Samoan, reinforcing my language skills. Listening to the stories shared by parents and elders has enriched my knowledge of Samoan history and traditions, emphasizing the importance of oral tradition. I’m excited to showcase what I’ve learned through Samoan dancing and singing at the cultural night, contributing to the preservation of our language and traditions. Talofa lava, o lo’u igoa o Naomi Sipaia. Just a brief background of myself. I am a full blooded Samoan born and bred in Auckland, New Zealand. Growing up it was difficult learning the fa’asamoa way of life and learning the language while being influenced in an english\/palagi environment. Although, we had dad, mum and family who would teach us along the way, I felt the need to dive deeper. The Gagana Samoa workshop really did that for me in so many ways possible. I learnt so much from not only the emphasis of the samoan language, but the history, the food, the culture and the importance of family traditions. Joining this workshop has really elevated and broaden my knowledge of my people, my language and my beautiful homeland-Samoa.
